I just searched my archives about the Bose's radio mute pin. Here's a message I sent to the Maxima list a year ago:

After lots and lots and lots of searching at different Radio Shacks,
Mobile Audio stores, and even raiding Courtesy Nissan's warehouse to
try to find a plug for the telephone->radio mute connector on the back
of my Bose headunit, I finally found the plug.

Sure enough, one Radio Shack location had what they call a "6-pin DIN
PLUG", catalog number 274-020A. This plug fits the telephone plug on
the back of the Clarion/Bose head unit perfectly and has all the pins
needed.... You just open it up and solder wire(s) to the pin(s) you
need.

Now.. for explanation purposes imagine that you've got the radio out
of the dashboard and you're looking at it from behind. Locate the
round 6-pin DIN connector. It's got holes for six pins. The  BOTTOM
LEFT pin is the telephone usage signal input. When this pin is grounded, the radio is muted.

Side note: at this point, if you want to check that yours is working
correctly, do this: Stick a pair of tweezers in the telephone usage
signal input pin (BOTTOM LEFT) and the ground pin (TOP RIGHT).  The
radio should mute.

So... All you have to do to get radio muting with your handsfree kit
is get the Radio Shack 6-spin DIN plug, Cat. no. 274-020A, and solder
a wire to the bottom left pin when looking from behind. Stick this
connector in the back of the radio, and connect the wire to your phone
handsfree car kit in such a way that the wire is grounded when the
telephone is used. (This is how the Nokia car kit radio mute output
works... I am not familiar with other brands).

Hope this helps...

And here's a schematic of the back of the bose.. you need to connect the active-ground radio-mute wire to pin #1 of the round din plug.. Click on the image for a large version.
